If there is one ‘Best Of’ album that simply begs to be added to your collection this year then Best of BabyBird – released through Echo on 01 March 2004 must surely be it…

A bit of ‘official’ news from Echo about The Best of Babybird
Finally there’s a bit of ‘official’ news from Echo about The Best of Babybird.
The album was ‘mainly compiled by Echo with approval from Stephen’.
What this means is probably something in the line of Echo told Stephen that they were putting the album together, and he didn’t have a problem with it. Surely there must be some kind of contractual obligations for putting this out anyway. Whether he’s the one responsible for the heavy emphasis on songs from the Bugged-era is unknown. Perhaps there was just a general consensus that these songs were most appropriate (most cheerful that is) to go along with the singles. But still Bad Habit is there….
There is no DVD with this album. However, there are ‘still discussions of a DVD towards the end of the year’. So the idea has not been shelved altogether. If the Best of CD at least fulfils some criteria of success, then we’ll probably see it one day.
Finally, there are no hidden bonus tracks on the CD, and it will only be available as CD – meaning no limited edition version or LP for collectors.
At the moment it looks as though the album will be released on the 16th February.
Hope this will answer some unanswered issues.
Best Of Babybird is out in February
The awaited ‘Best Of Babybird’ Collection will be out in February. As promo copies (here supposing that’s what the copy shown at at eil.com is) have started to appear, there should be little reason to fear that it should be further postponed (originally planned for release in the Summer 2003).
Here’s the tracklist:
1. You’re Gorgeous
2. The F-Word
3. Bad Old Man
4. Back Together (remix)
5. Eyes in the Back in My Head
6. Goodnight
7. In the Country
8. Atomic Soda
9. The Way You Are
10. Candy Girl
11. If You’ll Be Mine
12. All I Want
13. Getaway
14. Cornershop (Single Version)
15. Out of Sight
16. Bad Habit
17. Fireflies
18. One Dead Groove
This counts 19 songs from the Echo era from 1996-2000 (Ugly Beautiful through to Bugged), so obviously you get the nine singles plus the Fireflies/Getaway EP that Echo did not want to release in 2000.
The rest are mostly well-known album tracks (and a few b-sides)with surprisingly many from Bugged. Who knows; perhaps Jones (if he’s been involved at all) always thought that this album was too unjustly put down all too soon by both label and fans?
Also, most fans will probably applaud the inclusion of Bad Habit. Sadly, there are no new songs for those who already have these in the collection, and there’s no sign of a bonus DVD of videos either. At least not yet! But please keep in mind that none of this have been officially confirmed.
By the way, this news comes on the exact one-year anniversary of the first uploading of The Bad Pages to the Internet. I’m looking forward to continue work on the project in the New Year, and also I’d like to thank all of those who keep sending me mails with news updates, suggestions etc. It’s all appreciated. And of course thanks you to all you regular visitors throughout the last year. Keep coming back.
