Notes
Stephen had a stab at remixing this track for the release of the single. The original’s calm tranquillity is replaced by a more substantial breakbeat (of course) and some playing around with the vocals. Subsequently, there is a distinctive touch of 2003 SJ from the same vein as ACOS running through the song, but on the whole it sounds more like a remix just for the sake of it. In order words, I prefer the original…

Stephen Jones on the collaboration with Aim

(from AIM’s website)

We asked Stephen Jones a few questions about the track and his experiences with completing the track [Good Disease], here are his responses:

What is Good Disease about?
Good Disease is about everything seeming lovely and sweet but underneath there’s something not quite right. like ugly and beautiful stuck together, is there such a thing as a good disease? If love’s a disease, then it’s curable. It’s kind of up in the air, waiting for a cure.

What was it like to work with Aim?
Working with Andy should have been weird but wasn’t. It was perfectly natural to do the track without ever meeting him. The music was so right up my street it was easy peasy.

How easy was it to write the lyrics for Good Disease?
‘Disease’ is great rhyming word. Trees have leaves, and leaves sound their best in a breeze, like boots in the snow, or a can of beer in an american brown paper bag. lovely crinkle sounds. Its an immediate summer song and the music made it easy to follow it up with lyrics.

Did you know straight away what you were going to do?
I just listen and listen to stuff I write lyrics to, dribbling out rubbish till a word or a line comes out of nowhere. It’s rarely planned, as I hate literate musicianship. So no plans, just freeflow.

What other tracks on the album ‘Hinterland’ would you have liked to get your hands on?
The one I loved the most was/is the instrumental, originally called the Italian (linctus). But it does suit being an instrumental.

Had you heard of Aim/Grand Central before this?
To be honest I knew very little, but I did know Habib House as my girlfriend is a manc and I lived there for a year. course I’d heard of Rae and Christian. Aim discovered me by chance and now I know all about Grand Central thru him. that’s what I like about finding good music. Fate.

Lyrics

Sitting on the grass in the summer breeze
looking at the wind
tease the leaves
Baby, i put my arm around you
you weren’t free

Baby don’t worry
it’s a good disease

Hey girl
baby don’t worry
it’s a good disease
so lovable, lovable, lovable …
baby don’t worry
I’m a good disease (x2)

Baby, i just can’t believe
that you wanna sit here next to me
Push up time though my heart bleeds
Baby don’t worry
I’m a good disease
